INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL ACCESS PROGRAM
Since its inception, the Society for Marine Mammalogy has supported access to marine mammal science by providing complimentary subscriptions to Marine Mammal Science and copies of special publications to universities, libraries, and government agencies in developing and soft-currency countries.* This program helps ensure that students, researchers, and professionals have access to current scientific literature when membership or subscription costs may otherwise be a barrier.
Eligible institutions must provide open access to students and professionals in their region, be publicly owned or operated by an academic or government organization (individuals and non-governmental organizations are not eligible), and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining the materials within an established technical collection with ongoing access.
Universities, libraries, government agencies, and research laboratories in eligible countries that do not currently receive a subscription may submit a request to the Chair of the Committee on International Relations. Requests should include information on the need for access, the level of marine mammal science activity and interest in the region, and proposed arrangements for maintaining and providing access to the collection. Applications are reviewed by the Committee and approved by the Society’s Board of Governors.
The program currently supports 19 institutional subscriptions, listed below, with additional opportunities planned. Suggestions for future recipients are welcomed.
